Dr. Kara Peterson is a native Londoner. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an honours degree in Biochemistry before going on to do her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo. She returned to London in 2002 to practice and after having a great opportunity to contribute in diverse practice settings, she is now excited to bring this experience to her own practice.
Her training included an extensive internship in the diagnosis, treatment and management of ocular disease under glaucoma, retina, cataract and oculoplastic surgeons at a large ophthalmology and optometry centre in Phoenix, Arizona.
It is with this experience, Dr Peterson brings to the community a passionate and holistic approach to eye care and health. She spends quality time with her patients, learning about her patients and getting to know them. Dr. Peterson makes education and awareness a top priority. Whether discussing dietary supplements that you need to consider taking in order to keep your eyes healthy or discussing the best lens options, she strives to make sure she communicates to all her patients in a way that they understand and can benefit from her knowledge.
She enjoys practicing full scope family orientated optometry. She is a big advocate of infant and children eye exams and is a participating optometrist in the Eye See Eye Learn program (www.eyeseeeyelearn.com).
She has a special interest in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic eye disease. She actively participates as an investigative optometrist in a number of clinical research trials and has been a guest speaker to professional groups on several occasions.
Dr. Peterson is licensed to use therapeutic and diagnostic pharmaceutical agents in the detection, treatment and management of eye diseases such as red eyes, allergies, dry eyes and glaucoma. She is also an affiliate of TLC laser centres.
Her clinical experience and training has also taken her into the fields of vision therapy and brain injury and neuro-optometric rehabilitation.
Dr. Peterson regularly travels to third world countries as a volunteer optometrist serving outlying communities without access to health care. She is the current president of the Ontario chapter of the organization VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services for Humanity).
Dr. Peterson consciously practices healthy, balanced living. She is an accomplished equestrian and a professional singer.
Dr. Peterson currently sits on the board of Directors at SARI Therapeutic Riding, an organization combining her passion of horses with her respect of humanity. She is also the current vice president of the Hyde Park Business Association.
